Navigating life’s difficulties can be challenging, especially having lived through a time of physical and emotional isolation. I honor all as unique individuals and value your life experiences. Prior to counseling, my background was in music where I maintained a professional career in the arts for over 20 years. I can relate to the many obstacles artists face on a deeper level. I understand the pain and frustration that comes with being creative and sensitive. I value the importance of cultivating a strong therapeutic relationship so we can collaborate to find the tools within yourself to move towards positive change and growth. I am passionate about helping others. I will focus on your current concerns and work with you to find ways to help overcome them at your own pace in a safe, non-judgmental, and warm environment. Our sessions will be focused on you, both where you are in the moment and where you hope to go. Together we discover what’s best for your journey to wholeness.
My name is Siobhan I am student
intern at serenity psychotherapy
mental health counseling. I like to
work with adults, children, and
adolescents. My hope is to help
individuals with issues that they
may be experiencing with their
lives. My approach to counseling is
person centered, focusing on the needs
and values of individuals. I am
empathic, a good listener, and patient, while
creating a space for individuals to
feel safe to explore their feelings
and reflect on their lives. I look
forward to embarking on this
journey with you.
The therapeutic space is a place for personal growth and meaningful change, it is in this space that I meet my clients with compassion, warmth and authenticity. It is my intention to create a safe space in therapy, where listening with a non judgmental heart allows clients to feel open enough to explore their inner thoughts and experiences. I work with clients to help them gain insight into their lives, process past traumatic experiences, understand difficult emotions, and work to achieve their individual therapeutic goals. Together, we will identify goals centered around what you hope to accomplish in therapy.
I work mostly with children, adolescents, adults and parents/families seeking techniques for gentle parenting. One of my passions is working with individuals who struggle with setting and maintaining boundaries, issues with communication, stress management, depression, anxiety and those who are navigating their space in relationships.
I believe intention is the catalyst for meaningful and lasting positive change. With psychotherapy as the conductor, I use an integrative approach to help clients to explore both the past and the present to determine the direction of change they desire for their lives.
Every counselor's professional journey begins with a why, and that why turns into a mission. My why will always be a reminder of the trials and tribulations it took to get here, but the mission is now the focus. Our mental health needs change as we reflect, and develop new understandings of our experiences and ourselves. Like the greatest athletes, musicians, actors, and other heroes, they practiced constantly to become the legends they are today. My philosophy with counseling is the same. I view therapy as our life-long practice helping us unlock new accolades, and versions of ourselves we didn’t know were possible while learning to heal from our scars of the past. In addition to my counseling credentials, I hold an MBA and have worked in management as well as musical entertainment for the past 10 years. As a husband and father of three, relationships hold a special place in my life, and the influence those relationships have on us. My therapeutic space welcomes all individuals, and my goal is to provide you with the guidance and facilitation needed to mend and persevere to the next phase of your life.
Depression and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Nearly one-half of those who suffer from depression will also suffer from anxiety.
According to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (2020), 17.3 million adults and 1.9 million children ages 3-17 in the US suffer from major depressive disorder. Adults who suffer from a depressive disorder are 64% more likely to develop heart disease, and often co-occurs with other medical conditions. Research has also revealed that depressive disorders are a contributing factor to suicide ideation, and suicide is the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10-34 and the fourth leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 35 and 54 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, 2018).
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (2018), 40 million adults in the US suffer from anxiety and only 36.9% of the population seeks treatment. Research shows that people who suffer from anxiety are five times more likely to go to the doctor. Genetics, life experiences, risk factors, as well as brain chemistry contribute to the development of anxiety disorders.
Through counseling and treatment, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and the happiness that you deserve.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. In the US 61% of men and 51% of females report at least one traumatic event in their lifetime, and 90% of people in health care settings have experienced a traumatic event. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
According to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Eating Disorders (2020) 30 million people including all ages and genders suffer from an eating disorder. Research has found that 97% of people who suffer from an eating disorder had at least one co-occurring mental health disorder with 94% suffering from a mood disorder; 69% of people suffering from anorexia nervosa also suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder; 81% of people who suffer from bulemia nervosa also suffer from anxiety disorder; one-third of people who suffer from binge eating disorder are also diagnosed with major depressive disorder; and one-fourth of people who suffer from an eating disorder also suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/statics, 2020). Genetics, environmental factors, and personality traits are all contributing factors to an eating disorder.
Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Sessions are held with both parties and is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship.
